15 Greatest Classic Rock Guitar Solos

10. November Rain - Guns N' Roses

One of the standout songs from the highly anticipated follow up to Appetite for Destruction, "November Rain" is the main highlight of Use Your Illusion I.

Written long before Guns N' Roses began work on recording their critically acclaimed debut album, the track is a sweeping power ballad that serves as one of Axl Rose's finest musical moments throughout his tenure with the band.

Although the song was written by Axl, it is also notable for Slash's several emotion packed solos, providing one of the most memorable solos in the Guns N' Roses music library, as well as an impressively bad-ass shot for the song's music video.

Playing with power, emotion and rigour, Slash makes extensive use of the Aeolian Mode throughout all three solos to create a melancholic yet dynamic feel, perfectly fitting the tone of the lyrics that make "November Rain" a classic power ballad.

Clocking in at just under nine minutes, the song doesn't waste a single moment, building and building to an explosive finale that demonstrates every band member at their best. Nearly 30 years after its release, the song is still a fan favourite of the band's, mostly thanks to the creative guitar work of Slash.
