15 Greatest Pop Punk Albums Of The 2000s
1. Fall Out Boy - From Under The Cork Tree
Patrick Stump admitted on Twitter that "Dance, Dance" is probably the best thing he's ever done, which is quite the courageous statement considering he's put out ten years of music since then. But, when going back to give Fall Out Boy's sophomore album a listen, it's hard to argue with him.
Pop punk purists (if there even is such a thing) will point to the band's debut as the finest thing Fall Out Boy has ever produced, but while Take This To Your Grave often felt like it was hurrying through its runtime so you wouldn't notice the lack of individuality in the songs, From Under the Cork Tree takes a moment to let every crisp drum fill, deep bass groove, and killer hook stick the landing.
At the time of its release, Fall Out Boy was living in that rare sweet spot: Adventurous without being so jaded as to feel like they had to be. Future albums would hop right over that fine line and sound like a band trying to hard to distance themselves from a particular scene, but From Under the Cork Tree had the wherewithal to embrace their hardcore roots without denouncing their obvious radio-readiness.
Also, "I'm just a notch on your bedpost, but you're just a line in the song" is one of the greatest, snarkiest lines Pete Wentz has ever written.
