15 Greatest Protest Songs Of The 21st Century

10. Gogol Bordello - "Immigraniada (We Comin' Rougher)"

Key Lyrics: "If you give me the invitation // To hear the bells of freedom chime // To hell with your double standards // We're coming rougher every time"

Gogol Bordello is a collection of multi-culture Gypsy punks from New York whose band members hail from Ukraine, Russia, China, Israel, Trinidad, Ecuador, and Ethiopa. So yeah, the topic of immigration is bound to come up in their music from time to time.

And although the band has a number of great songs that talk about both the often painful tribulations of culture blending ("Immigrant Punk") as well the joys of experiencing different civilizations ("Wanderlust King"), none are as ferociously righteous as "Immigraniada (We Comin' Rougher)".

The song posits that building walls around your world can't stop a person's freedom to choose where they want to live. Its lyrics are pointed at countries like Italy, France, and the United States that are hysterical about isolating their communities and passing laws to keep others out.

The song's indignant middle finger toward anti-immigration is propelled by each individual band member's personal experience, which makes every word and every note sting a little sharper.
