1. Coheed And Cambria - In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3
Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez spent more than a decade crafting a deeply intricate sci-fi saga with an expansive universe full of engrossing characters and interconnected plot lines. The stories, known collectively as The Amory Wars, focus on two main protagonists (not-so-coincidentally named Coheed and Cambria), and span 8 albums, 2 bands, several comic books, and a full-length novel. Taken all at once, it's a bit exhausting. But each chapter of the saga has produced a spellbinding, rewarding album full of songs that sound deeply personal and yet remarkably universal. It's a nimble trick that not many bands can pull off, especially when the content is as challenging as the prog-metal webs these guys are weaving. Choosing a favorite album of Coheed's is like picking a favorite family member. (Or, if you hate all of your family members equally, it's like picking your favorite pizza toppings while stoned.) But the second installment of their wide-reaching concept remains a fan favorite. most epic, darkest outputs from a band of early twenty-somethings. Epic, dark, and impassioned, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 is as much an exercise in genre-hopping as it is in storytelling, bouncing effortlessly from prog-rock to heavy metal to alternative to pop-punk and back again, occasionally within the same song. No Coheed album could be called a slouch, but the band set the bar incredibly high with this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT9zBeDVgIM
