15 Most Underrated Hard Rock Singers EVER
13. Joe Strummer - The Clash
In the grand scheme of rock singers, Joe Strummer never really tends to get brought up among the all-time greats. As a matter of fact, there's a legitimate case that Strummer is actually a bad singer given his gravelly delivery and lack of vocal versatility. However, Strummer's case is one that doesn't necessarily rely on notes or diction to be remarkable.
When the Clash broke onto the scene in the late 70's, Strummer's songs and voice was what really moved the public. Even though Mick Jones would be taking lead on some of the commercial songs from the band, Strummer was always front and center when it came time to spew venom about the injustice going on in England. While it seemed rough around the edges at first, Strummer seems to have a greater vocal force than you initially realized.
As opposed to a singer delivering a performance, it felt like you were listening to an actual human being when you heard Strummer sing. From song to song, the amount of emotion that could be heard through his voice had the ability to move something else in your gut that was indescribable. People would normally shy away from this kind of vocal style, but when it comes to the Clash, you come for Mick Jones, but stay for Joe Strummer.
