15 Things Only Modest Mouse Fans Will Understand

12. Isaac Brock Is A Different Kind Of Lead Singer

Even for an indie rock band, Isaac Brock doesn't sound have the most inviting voice. In fact, between his prominent lisp and wild, guttural intonations, it's reasonable to question whether Brock can technically be called a "singer" at all. But to hell with singers, then. Brock's quivering, effusive, often manic style of, let's call it "emoting," is one of the most endearing things about the band. There's a beautiful chaos to the way he chooses to enunciate words, and you'll never be able to anticipate where he'll place the emphasis on a particular lyric. Brock is engaging at all times, though he never gets enough credit for his quieter vocals, the kind he displays in "Blame It On the Tetons" and "Little Motel."
