15 Things Only Pearl Jam Fans Will Understand
3. Wanting To Be Eddie Vedder
Eddie Vedder is an absolute DUDE. There's no getting around the fact. Effortlessly charismatic and cooler than a polar bear colony, Vedder is a man that every Pearl Jam fan wants to be. He has a voice like melted chocolate, is humble in the fact of his immense popularity and stardom and dedicates himself to a number of important causes.
Oh, and he's also Sean Penn's surfing buddy. But seriously, Vedder is such an effortlessly cool guy, but it's not a 'showy' kind of cool. He's not trying to be cool. He just is. He had that regular guy vibe that some music stars would pay a million dollars for. Vedder has supported pro-choice groups, environmental groups and is a staunch democrat, having twice endorsed Barack Obama.
But Vedder's most notorious activisim is, perhaps, his continued supporting of the so-called West Memphis Three, a group of teenagers who were wrongly accused of the gruesome murder of three young boys in West Memphis, Arkansas. Vedder was outspoken in his support for the Three, befriending them while they were on death row and even attending their release from prison.
Eddie Vedder is just a good dude. You never hear anything about him ignoring his fans or acting inappropriately in any way: he's kept his head on his shoulders and his feet on the ground. He's such a nice man that Pearl Jam's hardcore fans will even excuse the fact that he released an album comprised entirely of ukelele songs.
