15 Things Only Slipknot Fans Will Understand

5. 742617000027

To anyone that isn't a true Maggot, 742617000027 is just an inconveniently long set of numbers. But to those that ARE true Maggots, it holds an iconic, almost religious, in meaning. The number itself was the barcode of the early MFKR demo, purchased by the band and - significantly - utilised as the title of the introductory track of their debut album. For many Maggots, this number was the first introduction to the band, with Charles Manson's sampled quote - "This whole thing, I think is sick" - warped by Craig Jones' corrosive and eerie samples. The number may be unwieldy and difficult to remember, but it is one of the most important elements of Slipknot's history. Although there have been more well-rounded introductory tracks in Slipknot's later discography (with the wonderful "Prelude 3.0" on "Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses" being a particular standout), none have the same significance to Maggots as 742617000027.
