15 Things Only Slipknot Fans Will Understand

3. ".5: The Gray Chapter" Is The Band's Most Personal Album Title

Between the release of their debut and fourth albums, Slipknot impressively managed to keep together their entire lineup despite the band's vast size and its explosive and aggressive nature. But fans know that on May 24th, 2010 that all changed, as bassist, songwriter and co-founder Paul Gray passed away from a morphine and fentanyl overdose. Paul was a popular member of the band with both bandmates and fans, and his death has had a huge impact upon everyone involved. It took six years for the band to release the follow-up to "All Hope Is Gone", titled ".5: The Gray Chapter" in honour of their fallen friend, and in that time key member Joey Jordison left/was fired (depending on who you believe). But the "Pulse Of The Maggots" never let up in that time, and fans continued to support the band and show their admiration for the late bassist. One huge example of this in action was at 2011's Sonisphere Festival in the UK, when the Maggots showed their love and togetherness in an incredibly emotional two minute silence in his honour. Slipknot's fans understand that the group is a family, and they stick by the band - no matter what happens.
