13. Blame It On The Boogie - Big Fun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzS7zVNgWrg Released: August 1989. UK Chart Peak: #4. Oz Chart Peak: #37. With each passing year the SAW sound continued to evolve and Blame It On The Boogie was the embodiment of their 1989 sound: approaching 120bpm, stuttered vocoder effects, some keys to capitalise on the emerging piano house craze, the driving 4/4 beat and that sampled drum loop that found its way onto so many SAW productions that year. With three pretty boys wearing bright primary colours and matching bumbags, some funky choreography, clever visuals and all that dodgy falsetto, it was hard not to like (or at least laugh at) the song and its accompanying video. By reaching the top four, Big Fun's version even out-charted The Jacksons' 1978 original, which only went to number eight. Big Fun went on to release another couple of cracker singles and an album. Cheesy lyrics and that incessant falsetto were their constant companions, as well as quite possibly being their downfall. After the cringeworthy last single from the album, two of the three boys released one more single in 1994. After that, there was no more Fun - Big or otherwise.

I'm just a guy who loves words. I discover vast tracts of uncharted enjoyment by chucking words together and coming up with stuff that talks about the things I enjoy and love most. I'm also a massive listaholic, so I'm probably talking about a list, looking at a list or banging away at another What Culture list as you read this. My tone's pretty relaxed and conversational, with a liberal sprinkling of sparkling wit, wilting sarcasm and occasional faux-condescension - with tongue almost always firmly planted in cheek.
