18 Things Only Iron Maiden Fans Will Understand

16. Now Flying Ed Force One

In 2007, the band decided it was time to give back to the fans in a powerful way by touring countries they hadn't visited since the 80s. There was only one problem: the accountants disagreed. The cost of traveling to play shows in India, Southeast Asia, and South America just cost too much to pull off. To combat the cost Bruce came up with an idea he called Ed Force One. The band would travel the world in its very own 747 jetliner plane, which would haul all crew and cargo, allowing them to visit any destination in the world... at least for a price the accountant's found somewhat agreeable. Taking a year to build, the giant plane was completed in time for Maiden's Somewhere Back in Time Tour in 2008. Just when we thought Maiden couldn't possibly gain any more of our respect they go to the trouble of building their own jetliner to bring us more shows without jacking up the cost in ticket pricing. Bruce, who works part time as an airline pilot (a job he clearly doesn't need), gladly took the job of Ed Force One's pilot. Now when Iron Maiden is coming to visit your town, look to the skies for a giant metal beast with Eddie the Head painted on the fuselage.
