19 Things Only Metallica Fans Will Understand

10. The MetOnTour Videos Are The Best Tour Movies Ever

Just because they can, Metallica are kicking out videos nearly every week that are shot from multiple cameras and feature a line-in recording of their rehearsal audio, showing an unprecedented level of play-by-play curtain removal where we can see how they operate in the crucial moments leading up to performing. With videos showing how the setlists themselves come together, Lars' continual astonishment that fans are requesting heavier and faster tracks as oppose to the likes of Hero of the Day, or just hammering home the point that besides the ridiculous amounts of money that has traded hands over the years they are still performing with a love for what they do and where they are, these videos continue to hit tens of thousands of views for very good reasons.

9. Some Kind Of Monster Was A Great Idea

Creating its own subset of fans that love it purely as a documentary showing a band teetering on the precipice of implosion, you can look back at it now and see where things started to change for the better. Long-dormant issues such as Cliff's immediate replacement in 1986 by Jason Newsted were buried under a lake of alcohol and forward touring momentum, yet after Hetfield had done his stint in rehab and the band had reunited to kick their management-appointed 'Performance Enhancement Coach' straight back to whichever money-grubbing pit he'd spawned, Metallica have been a resolutely purposeful beast ever since. Even on the film's commentary track they note that scenes were stitched together to tell a more entertaining and controversial narrative arc, but it remains that without Some Kind of Monster, Metallica wouldn't have purged themselves with St. Anger and the likes of Death Magnetic or the 30th Anniversary may never have happened.
