18. If I Could Make It Go Quiet - Girl In Red

Girl In Red randomly found this art by Fredrik Wiig Sørensen as she was scrolling online. She loved it so much she not only bought the real-life painting but made it her album cover. (So, if you need inspiration for the cover of your next mixtape, here’s his Instagram.)

That she described it as a portrait of herself in “the kind of headspace [she] feels like [she’s] constantly in” should tell you all you need to know about the kind of music the 22 year-old Norwegian indie pop prodigy makes. There’s something disturbing about it: bright colours are used to create a dark atmosphere, the girl looks torn between world-weariness on the left side of her face, and absolute distress on the right side. And it all (sadly?) goes well with lyrics whose main theme is Girl In Red’s own mental health issues.

For example, in “Serotonin” she mentions having intrusive thoughts about cutting her own hands. Look at the right hand of the girl on the painting. Yeah…
