20 Best Classic Rock Guitar Riffs Of All Time
8. Money - Pink Floyd
There were certainly plenty of riffs to go around in the prog scene, but the complexity would sometimes be too much for some. It was always impressive to see these bands play in these odd time signatures, but if you couldn't actually groove to the riff, a bit of the artistic integrity seemed to diminish.
Keeping it just simple enough, Pink Floyd took the initial prog approach but refined it in a way where everyone could appreciate it. As opposed to other entries on this list, this is an instance where the main riff isn't even done on a guitar. The main draw of "Money" actually comes from Roger Waters, whose delicate touch on his bass provides an easy metre so the song remains bouncy.
What makes the song even more wild is that the time signature never feels out of place. Yeah, the timing may feel a bit off on the first few listens, but the more the riff comes around, the more you come to appreciate the more off-kilter approach. Pink Floyd would have much more extravagant productions later down the line like on Animals and The Wall, but "Money" was the first time that prog arrived in the mainstream on a grand scale.
