20 Best Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Guitar Riffs Of 2016

9. Galactic Empire - "The Imperial March"

Cosmic thrashers Galactic Empire have been one of the most consistently fantastic things about 2016. With three singles under their belt and a debut album dropping in February 2017, the momentum is with the Dark Side of the Force as they ditch the blaster rifles and lightsabers and take up the art of metal, delivering heavy metal takes on the beloved John Williams scores from the original six Star Wars movies.

This year, this five-piece's sheer creative genius came across best in their take on the iconic "Imperial March" movement, as the grandiose cellos, violins and otherwise of the original are morphed into technically sound lead guitars and what are actually rather polyrhythmic drumbeats.

If you're a metalhead that loves spending their free time in a galaxy far, far away, you can't not adore Galactic Empire.
