20 Best Metal Albums Of 2017 (So Far)

6. RIVIẼRE - Heal

For fans of ambient, melodic and progressive acts like TesseracT and Deftones, RIVIẼRE's 2017 debut album, Heal, is a must-listen. Hailing from the south of France, this young, harmonic quartet takes only the most calming side of the burgeoning djent movement and runs with it, resulting in a very relaxing experience fuelled by progressive, lengthy songwriting.

While tracks like "Satin Night", "New Cancer", "Symbol" and "Yosemite" very nearly threaten to cross the ten-minute mark, entries "Golden Wounds" and "Binary Love" are more punchy and direct, especially with the latter's powerful, Gojira-esque opening riff.

Like all great heavy records, the appeal of Heal (thanks to its omnipresent rhythms, melodies and ambience) is not just limited to metalheads. Truthfully, there is no excuse to not check this one out.
