10. Cellar Darling - This Is The Sound

Hanging in the top ten by the very skin of its teeth, the full-length debut by folk metal connoisseurs Cellar Darling, This Is the Sound, is an album that lives up to the enormous pedigree of the men and women that created it.

A Swiss power trio consisting of Anna Murphy, Merlin Sutter and Ivo Henzi, every musician in this up-and-coming, exciting act is an ex-member of the Celt-inspired melo-death giants Eluveitie, a fact which instantly put an immense weight on both this new group and their first ever record.

However, not only did Cellar Darling step up to the plate, but they rocked the plate so hard that it shattered apart faster than at a Greek wedding. This Is the Sound is an hour-long journey that feels timeless in its ingenious use of such classic instruments as the hurdy-gurdy, but also undeniably modern through its ensnaring hard rock melodies, masterful guitar-work and adventurous compositions.

If this confident first step of a disc is indeed "the sound", then it is very safe to assume that the sound is in very safe and talented hands for the oncoming future.
