20 Best Metal Albums Of Summer 2017
16. Voyager - Ghost Mile
Australia is quickly becoming the premier source of today's best progressive metal, and nothing proved that sentiment more true this summer than Ghost Mile, the sixth album by Perth's thunderous experimentalists, Voyager.
Harmonic and heavy in equal measure, Ghost Mile is a truly beautiful experience, yet also one with enough polyrhythmic post-modernism and crushing, seven-string riffing to kill a man. It is a disc that seamlessly bridges the gap between the classic prog of yore (thanks to its use of keyboards and phenomenal, clean delivery from frontman Danny Estrin) and the extreme power and complexities of modern, technical metal.
As a result, you would be very hard-pressed to discover a progressive music fan that wouldn't find at least something to adore about Ghost Mile. It is both impressive and accessible, which, in an age where it seems that most experimental bands strive to out-shred the competition, is becoming an increasingly rare and admirable quality.
Hence, for fans of TesseracT, Rush, Coheed & Cambria and Caligula's Horse, Ghost Mile is an indisputable must-listen.
