20 Essential Albums Every Country Music Fan Should Own

6. Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels On A Grave Road

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC3Yra2nMy4 Key Tracks: Drunken Angel, I Lost It, Joy Car Wheels on a Gravel Road is a fantastic album. It ought to be, since it took about six years and three producers to make it. Those aren't exactly 'Chinese Democracy' numbers, but it's still a lot of time and effort to invest in making a record. The people involved suffered for their art, especially Steve Earle, who said that working on the album was the least fun he's ever had working on music. But the hard work was worth it, as Car Wheels on a Gravel Road turned out to be Lucinda Williams' best to date and one of the defining country albums of the 90s. It's a very southern album, with Williams adding country and blues elements to her typical roots rock sound. There is nary a dud amongst the thirteen tracks.
