20 Exquisitely-Produced Songs That MUST Be Played Loud As Hell
2. Japandroids "The House That Heaven Built"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqaEQTi3rew As far as production is concerned, "The House That Heaven Built" doesn't actually have that much going for it. It's just booming guitars, pounding drums, and bleeding-heart vocals. However, if a song can prove anything, it's that a production job doesn't have to be lush and enveloping to be truly magnificent. When I think of songs deserving the headline of this article, "The House That Heaven Built" is right up there. Part of it is the song's utterly infectious energy. Lead vocalist Brian King sings like a man whose life depends on it during this song's five minute runtime, spitting should-be-iconic lines like "You're not mine to die for anymore, so I must live," and shouting the high notes on the chorus even though he doesn't quite have the chops to hit them. Frankly, "House" is the greatest rock and roll track of the 21st century, and the raw, straight-ahead production enhances it by making you feel as if you're actually in a garage or at a show with the band, shouting along to their anthemic proclamations.
