20 Greatest Metal Albums Of All Time

4. Slayer - Reign In Blood (1986)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDk6fvkEp2k Reign In Blood is the distilled sweat of a million mosh pits - this is fight music, pure and simple. Other than a few moments of rain sounds and some unsettling distorted guitar wails which bookend Raining Blood, this album thunders on unhindered from bloodcurdling start to finish. Crisp and deadly, Slayer's first major label offering was a ruthless screamer of exquisitely executed heavy metal. The musicianship was bloody frightening in its intensity, riddled with remarkable riffs and Tom Araya's raw vocal shout punching each track square in the face, and still had the party wrapped up within half an hour. Back in '86 this was regarded by many as the heaviest thing ever melted onto vinyl, and is still revered as a landmark release. A major influence on the metal scene for years to come, Reign In Blood left us all bloodied in its wake.

Game-obsessed since the moment I could twiddle both thumbs independently. Equally enthralled by all the genres of music that your parents warned you about.
