18. Cannibal Corpse - Vile (1996)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myZQg5RmcpI Vile broke new ground for death-merchants Cannibal Corpse. The overall feel was still something like having your head forced into an industrial meat grinder, but there was a surprisingly catchy tone here too - with memorable riffs and even a bit of a groove to get stuck into. Neater production and a more refined approach to the classic hammer-blow style moved Cannibal Corpse towards more listenable territory without alienating the fans. We cried blood at the loss of vocalist Chris Barnes, but his replacement George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher's gravel-throated growl added new texture to the consistently repulsive gore which has been a Cannibal Corpse trademark since day one. Horror hymns like Devoured By Vermin and Disfigured served up a happily appalling feast of death metal debauchery as these industry veterans chewed through yet another chunk of bloody death metal.
