https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgWUnuB6quc The legendary reggae singer Bob Marley is probably better known for his uplifting vibes and positive energy than his political works, but that detracts nothing from records such as Redemption Song, or the track featuring here, Small Axe. Marley sings, 'if you are the big tree, we are the small axe. Ready to cut you down (well sharp) to cut you down.' Of course, this song can be interpreted as a classic David overcoming Goliath story, but like much of Marley's music (and Jamaican music as a whole), its meaning is just as much a social commentary on what was going on politically in Jamaica at the time. The bouncy rhythm makes this one a cheery listen, even if it is about overcoming those trying to oppress you. A kind of musical oxymoron that stirs the soul and pleases the ears.
