20 Most Anticipated Hard Rock & Metal Albums Of 2022

7. Porcupine Tree

Title: Closure/Continuation

Release Date: 24th June 2022

Previous Release: The Incident (2009)

Porcupine Tree began in 1987 as a solo project for Steven Wilson, but by 1993 he had extended the project into a band. They went on to become a hugely influential prog rock band, albeit one that remained underground for much of their career. Their biggest commercial success was their previous release. This led to the band being tagged with "the most important band you’d never heard of" label. Regardless their music has influenced the likes of Rush and Dream Theater.

Though new content has been discussed since 2011, various reasons have kept Porcupine Tree away from the recording studio, primarily Wilson's focus on his solo output. With Wilson commenting as late as March 2018 that there was "zero" chance of new Porcupine Tree material, adding he wanted to do "different things [...] with different people."

However on 1st November 2021, they revealed Closure/Continuation, a late-2022 tour, and their first single in 12 years Harridan. The band revealed that Harridan and some other upcoming tracks have been around since the conclusion of The Incident.
