Anthrax, as one of the pillars of the Thrash Metal genre, have a legion of fans, spanning generations, due to their constant body of work since 1981. Talk of a new Anthrax album has been abound for years, with the band citing not wanting to release an album while pandemic restrictions prevented them from touring it. Though in November 2020, Scott Ian reasoned:
"In my brain, I don't wanna put a record out until I can play shows. That's what I wanna do, but, of course, I don't control the world [...] There would be no reason to have a record [written] and then just sit around and not record it. So, I think once we actually feel like we're ready to go into the studio, we'll do that, regardless of where things are at on the planet, and then just take it from there [...]"
In mid-2021, the band's bassist Frank Bello gave a more positive outlook:
"I think we have a six-, seven-song thing right now that we're working and finagling around. So we're on a good path. There will be another record in '22. Hopefully everything works — everybody stays healthy and things are open. We'll see what happens."
