https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RZJ4ESU52U A song that has been covered by so many bands (Motorhead, Black Flag, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Iggy Pop, to name but a few) it is hard to imagine how this Rock n' Roll classic could upset anybody? Surprisingly, when The Kingsmen released their version of Louie, Louie back in 1955 it attracted a lot of attention and was subsequently banned by many American radio stations. Amid accusations of obscenity, the FBI launched a 31-month investigation into the matter and concluded they were 'unable to interpret any of the wording in the record'. This was due, in no small part, to The Kingsmen frontman, Jake Ely, adopting a slurred delivery resulting in his words being virtually undecipherable, apparently disguising profanity and lyrics laced with explicit sexual imagery. Lazy vocals aside, the banning of this record was ludicrous and The Kingsmen eventually achieved nationwide popularity and strong record sales.
I love Heavy Metal, and generally anything that involves a guitar and loud noises, so I figured it was about time I put all the useless information in my head to good use and start writing a few things. Most of the time I'll be writing nonsense but occasionally I may surprise myself and appear half-way knowledgable.....but you can be the judge of that. Thanks for your fleeting attention!
