20 Most Important Hard Rock Albums Of All Time
13. Back In Black - AC/DC
After the death of Bon Scott, AC/DC seemed to be on life support. Without the group's trademark lead vocalist, many were convinced that no one would come close to filling Scott's shoes. However, the Young brothers were determined to soldier on and managed to pull off one of the greatest bouncebacks in hard rock history.
Quickly drafting in new singer Brian Johnson, the band set to work on Back In Black, which would become their breakthrough release. With ringing power chords and biting lyrics, the album became both a step away from their previous material as well as a touching tribute to their fallen singer. While there are plenty of heartfelt tracks like "Hells Bells," there's no getting past the exhilaration of "Shoot to Thrill" or the pure rock bombast of the title track.
Over time, Back In Black has gone on to be one of the most timeless records in rock music, with songs that still sound fresh to this day. More than just an album, this record served as a mission statement for any band who has ever felt down and out. No matter what obstacles lay before them, AC/DC were able to muscle through it and emerge on the other side as stronger players and people. What's your excuse?
