20 Punk Rock Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

3. Social Distortion - Social Distortion

In the world of not only punk rock, but rock and roll at large, Social Distortion is quite possibly one of the most underrated bands in history. Their rockabilly-influenced sound is absolutely fantastic and frontman Mike Ness can write a song with the very best of them.

Like with the Ramones, if you want to hear the band in their prime and at their best, you need look no further than their third album.

Social Distortion's eponymous record is an absolute masterwork. As opposed to political statements and the like, the band's music is largely based around personal issues that a lot of people can relate to and the lyrics are very down-to-earth.

The trials that come with growing up and watching things change are portrayed in Story of My Life, Ball and Chain tells the story of the vicious cycle of alcoholism, and Sick Boys melodiously portrays youthful recklessness. Plus, there is a fantastic cover of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire thrown into the mix for good measure.
