20 Punk Rock Albums You Must Hear Before You Die

17. Energy - Operation Ivy

You can't really talk about the history of punk rock without delving into the ska punk style, the cornerstone of the third wave ska movement in the '80s and '90s. And one of the most notable bands to play in that style was the short-lived, yet highly-influential group, Operation Ivy.

Their sole studio album, Energy, brings precisely that to the table. It packs the raw emotional energy associated with punk rock, as well as the catchy, danceable beats of ska music.

Plus, in addition to being an incredibly fun album to listen to, it's also an incredibly smart one, with many of the tracks, such as Vulnerability and Unity, containing social commentary that is still relevant today, nearly thirty years since its release.
