Mr Brightside is no doubt one of the most listened to tunes of all time and it’s probably because it’s played at least once a day at every night club in England. Everyone knows the song word for word. It's also been used for several movies (most memorably Cameron Diaz drunken singing in The Holiday), adding to its constant swirl in the media.
In 2018, it reached the milestone of staying in the Top 100 of the UK singles chart for 200 weeks. The on-going popularity is attributed to online streaming services and The Killers still being an active band within today’s music industry.
Mr Brightside was still a debut single though and at the time of release, and it only just reached the top ten. This is a respectable memento for a debut of a band, but when you consider how listened to the song is these days, it is slightly astonishing that it didn’t peak further.
