20 Things Only Arctic Monkeys Fans Will Understand

6. Alex Turner's Dancing Is Amazing

There's not much to say about this entry. If you go to an Arctic Monkeys gig, it's fairly likely Alex Turner will have a little dance at some point in the show. When he does, it's a wonderful thing.

5. Their SNL Performance Summed Them Up Perfectly

Arctic Monkeys may have finally found popularity in the US, but crossing the Atlantic hasn't always been easy for British bands. Many have tried and failed to make a mark there, with bands like The Verve and Blur never quite managing to replicate their domestic superstar status across the pond. In 2004, Turner and co. looked like making their first steps in the American market when they earned the honour of performing on Saturday Night Live following the release of their debut album. In the event, they gave an assured performance 'Certain Romance' - arguably one of the highlights of their debut album - albeit while looking a little disconcerted. It soon became clear why; Turner looked into the crowd towards the end of the song and blurted out "that man just yawned!" Some may call it controversial, but it's part and parcel of a band that has a habit of venting their frustrations, even if their chosen target happens to be the audience.

4. Their Tour Videos Are Actually Worth Watching

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAxLbmjnDbA Bands' video diaries can flatter to deceive. At times they seem to offer a genuine insight into the intimate details of musicians' lives, only to fall into the familiar traps of insincerity and self-promotion while failing to convey the inner workings of the band in question. Fortunately, Arctic Monkeys' tour videos do no such thing. As well as the obligatory updates on live shows and clips of band rehearsals, it's interesting enough just seeing the band members interact with each other. Their rock star status hasn't stopped them acting in a way you would expect from a young group of mates, and these videos do well to capture the band as they share jokes and goof around backstage. Once again, this is largely down to Matt Helders - a man that can make something as mundane as chatting on his sofa seem absolutely riveting. Arctic Monkeys certainly can't be accused of an over-reliance on PR fluff, and their refusal to take themselves too seriously off-stage is part of the reason their fans find them so likeable.
