In 2010, frontman Steve Tyler was announced as Simon Cowell's replacement on the judging panel of the perennial singing contest American Idol. Were his colleagues delighted for him? Nope, they were livid.

Joe Perry has stated that this move was behind their backs, and that they discovered the news not from the horse's mouth, but the internet.

He was so angry with the idea of Aerosmith being associated with American Idol that they considered dismissing Tyler and getting a new singer after 40 years. Seemingly, following a string of comical appearances in works like Sgt. Pepper and Revolution X, American Idol was a stretch too far.

Thankfully, Perry never followed through with this idea; Tyler's involvement with the show ended in 2012, but the band continues to endure with him at the mic, where he belongs.

I'm perfectly sane, or so the voices tell me. British, sarcastic, president of the European Slinky Association, have a tendency to lie when listing things about myself. 100% guilty of being a massive geek obsessed with Doctor Who, Harry Potter and video games. If you can't find me on the internet, I'm probably locked in a room playing Spyro the Dragon on my old PlayStation, or blowing everything to smithereens with a concrete donkey on Worms: Armageddon.
