20 Timeless Bruce Springsteen Songs

2. My City Of Ruins (2002)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1v1esiP0w6c This is the other timeless song present on The Rising. Bruce originally wrote this song in 2000 to help promote the movement for revitalizing Atlantic City, New Jersey. Since the song's release, it has often been mistaken as a song about the events of September 11th, 2001. This is not the case. Bruce did, however, famously play the song at the "America: A Tribute To Heroes" benefit in 2001 after the terrorist attacks, so the meaning of the song can certainly be adapted to that particular cause. Like many of Bruce's masterpieces, this song has a gospel-like feel when performed live.

1. Long Walk Home (2007)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iywFZqtPlhU A revitalized E Street Band released Magic in 2007 (their first studio album since 2002). The record is filled with Bruce's frustration with the Bush years and the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Long Walk Home was originally performed in 2006 during Springsteen's tour with his Seeger Sessions Band. It was soon re-worked and recorded with E Street. What had been a decent, somewhat intriguing song with the folk music inspired Seeger Sessions Band suddenly became a rock and roll epic. It has lived on as one of Bruce's best pieces of work during his later career.
