20 Universally-Hated Songs That Are Actually Technically Very Good

18. The Offspring - Hit That

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1slFc9G7I74 The ever-lasting pop punk icons have been at their particular game for well over 20 years now. After so long churning out classics time after time, you'd expect them to have a bit of a lull in quality and with Hit That, you're looking at it. The song itself, about a guy who sleeps around recklessly, is The Offspring by numbers and is nothing particularly special. A lot of fans were put off by the track and were claiming that the band had lost their edge, however under the hood, Hit That showed that the band were maturing and evolving. The Offspring's entire back catalogue has been guitar driven pop-punk whereas this made use of piano samples and synthesisers, slowing their generally frenetic pace down and working to a more comfortable beat. It's the biggest evolution in The Offspring's sound in years and a shame that the song itself was so weak.
