21 Biggest Metal Riffs Of All Time

15. Disturbed - Stricken

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3moLkjvhEu0 Track five from Disturbed's nigh-flawless (and nigh-unmatched) 2005 magnum opus Ten Thousand Fists remains just as incredibly solid today as it ever did before. Over the years guitarist Dan Donegan has Frankenstein'd a style by taking equal parts Kirk Hammett and Dave Mustaine before electrifying them with his own sense of melody; the end result being a run of albums through the noughties that only faltered slightly with 2010's Asylum, causing the band to ultimately go on hiatus to this day, evaluating other sound-possibilities along the way (even though the end result from all separate parties still ended up sounding like Disturbed). Back to Stricken though, and man what a riff. Back then everyone was still deciding whether or not singer David Draiman's monkey-style "Ah-a-a-ow"s were a good thing or not, the riff spoke for itself, becoming a permanent staple of the live set and injecting the energy levels of any waning crowd with a bucketload of adrenaline. Say what you like about Disturbed and their career-spanning similar song-structures, when the Disturbed hivemind is operating at peak efficiency and songs were coming out like this; packed to the brim with incredible production, solid musicianship and crossover-success choruses - there's no question as to why they hit four consecutive number one albums on the Billboard chart.
