18. Motley Crüe - Dr. Feelgood
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLPbLXIdxDk Some bands just nailed that classic 80's sound we all look back on now with varying degrees of love and embarrassment. Mötley Crüe however remain one of about three bands who managed to survive the grunge-induced genocide of glam rock that the 90's would bring, and it was all thanks to albums as enjoyable through and through as this one. The sheer swagger on the intro to Dr. Feelgood - a track given the ageless treatment thanks to some deft work from Mick Mars and his trademark Floyd Rose-flutters - is in itself reason to get stuck into the album, but it's the likes of Kickstart My Heart (written by Nikki Sixx after clinically being pronounced dead for a few minutes following an overdose - hey, it was the 80's!) that encapsulate the mood of the era and the unbridled aura of sex and danger that would make the decade so memorable in the first place. It's impossible to get sick of: Dr. Feelgood. The amount of aggression and slick playing exuded through the song's solo would be enough, but what really elevates the composition is Sixx's iconic classic rock-yell of "GUI-TAR!" that only stands on the right side of the cheese-wall because it's delivered with an unmatched level of conviction.
