15. Slipknot - Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses) (2004)
Notable Tracks: Before I Forget, Vermillion Pt. 2, Vermillion, Circle Loyal metal fans often lambast Slipknot fans for being fake metal fans, and I often agree with those sentiments. But, there is no doubt that this particular album displays how brutal, talented, and meaningful the band can be. Lead singer Corey Taylor is, without question, a talented writer and musician. Drummer Joey Jordison, considered by many to be one of the best metal drummers around, doesn't disappoint in this album either. The one thing that has always befuddled me about Slipknot, however, is why they require nine different members to create their music. Excusing that fact and listening to this album for what it is, there is no doubt it belongs on this list. The ambience Vermillion Pt. 2 conveys is nearly inexplicable. It's haunting, emotional, impressive, and so damn catchy for such a slowly paced song. But, if brutal, fast-paced heavy metal is what you desire, then you won't be disappointed with the majority of the songs on this album. This is the album really elevated them to the top of the genre and in a favorable spot on this list. Take a chance and give it a listen - at least you can say you tried to broaden your musical tastes.
