25 Best Damon Albarn Songs

7. This Is A Low

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RKxUFMc4Fg You might not understand 'This is a Low' at first. It's inspired by a tea-towel, and a lot like a lot of other Blur songs, to be honest. Sure, Coxon delivers probably the finest solo of his career. But there's nothing that might grab you, hook-like, on first glance. 'This is a Low' is a spot that you might visit with your girlfriend/boyfriend, though. You go there together every so often; it's not relevant or special as a place, but it's just somewhere, because everywhere has to be somewhere. And then one day, you go alone, and it's just not... the same. It's like that. Blur wouldn't be Blur without it. It's impossible to do written justice to it, but 'This is a Low' is a fixed point. It's a song that casts a contented look in Damon's eye as he paces the stage live, belting out that lovely chorus. 'This is a Low' is Blur. And yeah, a lot of songs represent Blur, but this one's so delicately written, so masterfully handled emotionally and so damn-well British, that it's just inexpressible. It's a picture that paints a thousand words. It's brilliant.
