3. Caramel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uR_TCZa4Dxk 'Caramel' is similar in many ways to 'No Distance', and they both have an almost identical strength. But where 'No Distance' is the clearest and purest picture of Damon's deepest emotions and feelings, 'Caramel' is a similar picture of Damon as a whole. Not just lyrically, though; 'Caramel' feels like meeting Damon Albarn. It's in the sweet, dry vocal line, effectless and dulcet, that floats on an airy background. It's in the confession that he needs to kick his smoking addiction. It's in the typically Albarnic request for love, love, love. And it's in the ascension to something epic, otherworldly, perhaps out of control, before winding down into the melancholic Londoner that we know and love. It's the Abominable Snowman of Blur's back-catalogue; it's fabled and mysterious, sure. And none of us know for certain, but it's probably as good a glimpse into this genius's head as we're ever going to get.
