18. Slow Country
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GPApntp7xk 'Gorillaz' is such a mix of things. It's coherent, but held together by a looser glue than anything Blur did. And that's not a bad thing. But 'Slow Country' is perhaps the most complete, typically Damon song on the album. A wave machine gently sways in the background, the lyrics speak of not standing loneliness. and a simple little guitar riff chimes; it's the soundtrack to your day away from the city, whether you're watching the world go by from the top of a hill, or relaxing on a beach. It's a break from the 'Punk's and '5/4's of the album, and it's a moment when you can feel the charm of Damon Albarn sneak through the puppetry. A highlight of the record, and perhaps the tenderest moment of the band's career.
