25 Best Metal Albums Of The Decade

9. Power Trip - Nightmare Logic (2017)

Dragging thrash metal all the way back to its scuzzy roots in hardcore punk, Power Trip's Nightmare Logic is a DIY-as-f*ck celebration of all that makes you want to bang your head. It doesn't reinvent the wheel but that doesn't matter with an end product this fun - and this thing could put a smile on even the most sullen metalhead's chops.

Nightmare Logic gets in, knocks it out of the park, and leaves in just 32 minutes. This brevity makes it one of the most easily-digestible records on our list. Albums like this that look primarily to the past can drag badly when they overstay their welcome, but not this slab of dirty, crossover bliss, which rages from start to finish.

With buzzsaw guitar riffs, pit-ready rhythms, and Riley Gale's hoarse, hoarse vocals, Power Trip go hard, but Nightmare Logic isn't lacking in catchiness. "Executioner's Tax (Swing of the Axe)" is as infectious today as it was upon release, while "Firing Squad" inspires chest-beating yell-alongs between propulsive riffs and screeching leads. The production helps in that regard, too: the dirtiness befits the genre, though these songs are never reduced to a mulch, even at their most chaotic.
