25 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Of All Time
12. Fugees - The Score
Before prematurely breaking up, Fugees released two albums, the second of which is one of the best hip-hop albums ever made. The Score, which came out in 1996, is rife with samples, experimentation, hip-hop, R&B, soul, reggae and melodic showstoppers.
It won the Grammy for Best Rap Album thanks to its polished production and lyrical abilities of Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel. Between the effortless rapping to Hill's hypnotising singing chops, The Score is aptly named - a sharp, fresh slam dunk of a record which is at once pure rap and yet completely unique. Plus - "Ready or Not" is one of the catchiest songs in hip-hop.
Fugees would split up after the album's critical and commercial success, each member achieving praise as solo artists. But if The Score proves anything after twenty-five years, it's that the group really disbanded before their time.
