25 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Of All Time

17. Outkast - Aquemini

Aquemini, named after the combination of Andre 3000 and Big Boi's astrological signs, is the rap duo at their most lyrically impressive and striking. Like many great albums, the record has aged incredibly well, so much so that it could have been released this year and no one would have really batted an eyelid.

OutKast are still rightly cited as perhaps hip-hop's most influential rap group, and though their other albums - from ATLiens to Speakerboxxx - are great examples of what makes the pair so great, nothing they've done has come close to 1998's Aquemini.

Melodic, fast-paced and seamlessly constructed, the album is both spiritual and confrontational, relaxed and in your face. Tackling themes such as race, fame and hip-hop itself, Aquemini doesn't mess around when it comes to crafting a powerful story or perfecting Andre and Big Boi's use of internal rhymes.

You need look no further than the title track to see how great the album is as a whole.
