25 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Of The Last Decade
11. Chance The Rapper - Coloring Book
If Acid Rap was the album that put Chance the Rapper on hip-hop fan's radar, Coloring Book was the record that launched his career into the stratosphere and made him a household name.
Coloring Book wasn't a massive departure from what we'd heard on Acid Rap. However, it took what made the latter album such a hit and enhanced all of those aspects to make a record that is just as good, if not better, than what we'd heard from him before.
Songs like "No Problem" and "Mixtape" show that he's great at this new style of hip-hop where rappers blend their actual rhyming with a more melody than before. Although those are great examples of Chance at his best, it's actually the song, "Same Drugs," that anchors the album and shows him at his very best.
Slapped right in the middle of the record, the song about the loss of a young relationship is one of the more heartfelt songs you'll hear from a hip-hop artist. While "Same Drugs" is certainly a standout record, it's surrounded by an abundance of other great tracks, making it his most complete and enjoyable project to date.
