5 Bands Who Drastically Changed Their Sound
4. Linkin Park
For some, looking back on the late 90s and early 2000s is a cringe-inducing endeavor. First off, Fred Durst was popular. Secondly, everyone was trying to integrate rap into just about everything. So it was only natural the Rock and Metal genres got their fair share of Rap-infused experiments.
Linkin Park was a band who attempted to mix Rap and Metal together, and ended up doing so successfully. Their debut album Hybrid Theory went on to be the best-selling album of 2001. It is estimated to have sold more than 10.5 million copies to date. The success of the album can easily be attributed to several hit singles : In The End, Crawling, and One Step Closer.
2017 marked the release of Linkin Park's latest album, One More Light. With declining sales on every album after their first, One More Light abandoned nearly all of the Rock and Metal elements that Linkin Park was known for, and introduced a more Electronic Pop style akin to the songs that were overtaking the radio at the time.
Sadly, frontman Chester Bennington took his own life just two months after the release of One More Light.
