5. Revolver (1966)
I always see this as more of a Paul McCartney-led album and I dont mean that to sound negative because Revolver has some of his loveliest songs. The big classic is Eleanor Rigby, which Ill get to in a minute, but the album has For No One and the beautiful Here, There And Everywhere. John Lennon even went as far to say Here, There And Everywhere was not just the best song on the album but one of his favourite Beatle songs. High praise indeed. Revolver expands on the folksy feel of the previous Rubber Soul, but this feels more like a peak. They began to experience a little more with the sound, resulting in the strings over Eleanor Rigby, giving the song that striking and urgent sound. The lead single from the album was a double A-side of Eleanor Rigby and Yellow Submarine. You couldnt really imagine two more opposite Beatles songs to be played against one another. Yellow Submarine is a great song for kids. I loved it when I was 8, admittedly Ive grown out of it since, but I bet you anything I could still sing all the words.
