5 Reasons Katy Perry Is The Reigning Queen Of Pop
4. Intelligent Song Choices
Katy Perry is currently one of the most distinctive artists on the airwaves.
Seemingly every few months, she has a track on the radio or TV stations that is both catchy and commercially successful. Irrelevant of a fans music style, most music lovers will instantly be able to rattle off Perry's lyrics as the tune plays, and memorable choruses stick in the head for days at a time. The skill here is that while all songs do fall into a very 'poppy' category, each has a distinct enough sound to seem new and fresh on the ear.
Taking the three flagship singles from her second album (California Girls, Teenage Dream and Firework) all three tracks are instantly recallable yet at the same time possess a very different vibe and feel.
When you look at some of the most famous artists over the years, you can almost forget half of the singles they have released, however whether it's i Kissed A Girl from 2008 or 2013's ROAR, Perry's tracks have the ability to stick around in the head. Lyrically, the music is accessible enough to sing along to, yet no so shallow as to make songs lack meaning too.
More emotional tracks such as The One That Got Away are tunes that many young people can grow up relating to - and whilst older generations may see some of the one liners as slightly immature or crass - they do speak to in a language that the youth of today relates to, without being condescending.
It remains one of Katy's most tangible assets - just great pop music that gets better the more you listen to it.
