5 Under Appreciated Kanye West Songs

1. Gone (Late Registration)

19 songs into Late Registration, Otis Redding's "It's Too Late" comes bursting through your speakers, and what follows is some of the best work any rapper has ever done. "Gone" is a perfect rap song all around. Kanye's rhymes are as good as they've ever been. "Y'all don't want no prob from me/What you rappers could get is a job from me/Maybe you could be my intern and in turn/I'll show you how I cook up summer in the winter," "I'm ahead of my time, sometimes years out/so the powers that be won't let me get my ideas out/and that make me wanna get my advance out/and move to Oklahoma and just live in my aunt's house," "They claim you never know what you got 'til it's gone/I know I got it I don't know what y'all on," I could go on, but I think you get the point. Kanye also has a knack for getting the best from his guests, in this case Cam'Ron and Consequence. "You can ask George or Regina/The whole west-side I explore with the Beemer now," wait a second, did Cam'Ron just make a Mean Girls reference? Perfect. We may not hear much from Consequence, but does he knock his verse out of the park here. He reminisces about lost friends, "I been pouring out some liquor for the fact that my pal's gone/And trying to help his mama with the fact that her child gone," shares regrets, "But lookin' back now I should have gone to the crib/and rented Gone With the Wind," and accepts responsibility, "And since I gone to a cell for some petty crimes/I guess I gone to the well one to many times, 'cause I'm gone." Please tell me, how is this not widely considered one of Kanye's best?
