2. Pet Shop Boys Introspective
Here's how it went - (You HAVE been keeping up, havent you?) Pet Shop Boys, presenting their new album to The Record Company, sometime 1988: Hi, Im Neil, hes the other one, were the Pet Shop Boys! And WERE BACK! Heres our new album for you all to listen to. Notice the new foray into jazz-funk as weve both been listening to that seminal Numan work I, Assassin AAHAAAH!!! Gotcha! Only kidding! Seriously though, heres the new album. Yes, I know its only six songs long, but well cover that by releasing a few singles with some interesting B-sides, yes, we know the remixed versions of the album tracks will turn out to be worse than the originals, but you know Trevor, never likes to be bored!, yes, I know it only contains two new songs, but hey, we did actually write Im Not Scared so technically thats a new song and the cover of Its Alright is so good that people will think that we wrote that as well, soanyway, Im bored, Im going on holiday. Coming, errrwhat was your name again? Fact: Parlophone released this, as we know. Polydor did NOT release Modernism A New Decade by the Style Council which they rejected for being too dancey. Go figure. The Pet Shop Boys had a Christmas Number 1 single that year with Always On My Mind. The Style Council split up. There is no justice. Listen to: This if you want to. Im a huge fan of them, but if you want a more rounded Pet Shop Boys album, go and listen to Alternative, for instance. And Modernism obviously.
