50 Albums That Defined The 2000s

13. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

Much to their chagrin, MGMT will probably be best remembered for a series of world-conquering hit singles. Despite distancing themselves from debut LP Oracular Spectacular (focusing instead of increasingly experimental work), the duo's legacy will forever be dominated by 'Time To Pretend', 'Electric Feel' and 'Kids' - and for good reason. Each drew considerable critical and popular acclaim (occupying the 1, 4 and 5 slots in NME's top singles of 2008), easing a new generation into the confusing world of psychadelia with a flawless pop framework. The rest of the album is fantastic too, but those three singles put every other track - and arguably the band as a whole - firmly in their shadow. Decade Defining Track: Kids
